Media influence can be conceptualized as an effect that gains by the
receiver. There are many research
regarding the media influence and effect by
the past researcher and mostly it shows that media is
giving a negative impact. Violence and aggression from the media has increased now days because the
exposures produce violence in people and aggression among youth.
According to the experts, L. Rowell Huesmann
“that
exposure to media violence causes children behave more aggressively and
affects
them as adults years later." (Grohmam, p.16
From media, kids and adults learn and imitate. As Albert Bandura
studies, children who
saw the model aggression in the television learn and
imitate what they saw in the television.
This shows that psychological and
physical behavior can be taught by what they repeatedly to
see.
According to Grimms, 2008 (pg 29) media effect exist in every part of
the mass communication and they are multiple and manifest. It’s considered as
the manifest because audiences can choice between watch or read the
medium. Any
chosen materials can considered as media effects.
Five decades of research into the effects of exposure to violent
television and
movies have produced a thoroughly documented and highly
sophisticated set
of research findings. It is now known that even brief
exposure to violent TV or
movie scenes causes significant increases in
aggression, that repeated exposure of
children to media violence increases
their aggressiveness as young adults, and
that media violence is a significant
risk factor in youth violence
(Bushman & Huesmann, 2001; Huesmann et al.,
2001).
Media is part of leaning process. The more youth has been exposed with
aggression and
violence, more they learn to be aggressive. This becomes the
risk factor for media to produce any
product that involving violence and
aggression.
